Before you pick a school

The award: $7,530 per student for 2026-27.
Who qualifies: Any Tennessee resident entitled to attend public school in kindergarten to 12th grade who is a U.S. citizen or lawfully present. When applications exceed seats, awards go in this order: current recipients; households at or below the free or reduced-price lunch limit, or on SNAP or TANF, or eligible for the state’s ESA or IEA; households at or below 300% of that lunch limit; current public school students and kindergarten entrants; then everyone else.
When to apply: For 2026-27, renewals opened December 9, 2025, new applications opened January 13, 2026, and the window closed February 6, 2026 at 4 p.m. Central. Dates for 2027-28 are not posted yet.
Being on the list is not a seat. Ask each school whether it has room in your child's grade and what you would still owe after the award.
