A record 27,560 students applied for 2026-27; 19,800 scholarships were awarded in June and about 7,500 students were placed on a waitlist, KUTV reported on July 6, 2026. The state allocated $120 million for the year. The program administrator’s own award notices block automated reading, so we have not checked these counts against them.

Worth knowing: A district court ruled the program unconstitutional in April 2025. It keeps running while the Utah Supreme Court hears the appeal.

How much does Utah pay toward private school?

Up to $8,000 for private school students. Home-based students receive $4,000 (ages 5 to 11) or $6,000 (ages 12 to 18).

Who can get it?

Any Utah K-12 student can apply, but awards go by preference tier: renewals first, then siblings of current scholarship students, then certain new students from households at or below 300% of the federal poverty level, then a lottery.
