Method
- Denominator: private schools in the U.S. Department of Education's Private School Universe Survey for 2023-24, the one count that includes schools whether or not they take a scholarship. Schools that closed since may still be in it, which pulls a share down.
- Numerator: those schools that also appear on the state's own list. Florida: schools listed as taking the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship or the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options in the Florida Department of Education's private school directory (its own count, in the download we loaded on October 6, 2026, is 2,588 of 3,607 private schools). Ohio: chartered nonpublic schools listed as EdChoice or Cleveland Scholarship providers for 2026-27 in the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Scholarship Provider Directory. We match by school name and town, or address; a school we could not match counts as not on the list, so each share is a floor.
- Schools we know only from the state list (opened since the survey, or not in it) are shown in their own column and kept out of the share, because every one of them is on the list.
- County: the county in the federal file, checked against Census boundaries.
