How Opportunity Scholarship works

What you get	Up to $10,367 per student for 2026-27. $10,367 is the state maximum. Each scholarship organization sets the actual amount, and many awards are smaller.
Who qualifies	Nevada students in households at or below 300 percent of the federal poverty level, attending a private school registered with the program.
How full it is	Five scholarship organizations are registered for 2026-27. In 2024 they paid 1,556 scholarships worth about $6.1 million, and 1,330 students were reported for the 2024-25 school year.
When to apply	There is no state application and no single deadline. You apply directly to one of the five registered scholarship organizations, and each sets its own dates. Apply to more than one, and early.
How the money moves	The scholarship organization pays the school on the student’s behalf.

Worth knowing: The program is small. It is paid for by business donations that earn a state tax credit, and those donations are capped at $6,655,000 a year for fiscal 2026 and 2027. Scholarship organizations run out of money quickly and new students often land on a waiting list.
