Private schools in Alaska
No state program pays private school tuition.
No Alaska program pays tuition for a student enrolled full time in a private school. Students enrolled in a public school district’s correspondence (homeschool) program get an allotment that parents can spend on approved nonsectarian services and materials, including some from private organizations, under a learning plan approved by a district teacher.
Worth knowing: Whether correspondence allotments may pay private school tuition is still in court. The Alaska Supreme Court ruled in March 2025 that the allotment law is not unconstitutional on its face but did not decide the tuition question, and the case (Alexander v. DEED) continues in superior court with no ruling found as of October 1, 2026.
